Care is in Our Own Hands is a nurturing online self-care workshop created to help you reconnect with your body through mindful attention and supportive touch. At the heart of self-care is a listening practice—an invitation to notice, interpret and respond to the sensations and signals our body offers us each day. As we develop this inner awareness, we gain a more empowered relationship with ourselves, one that can shift how we move through the world, how we age, and how we imagine our future well-being.
In this workshop, you'll be guided into gentle conversation with the shadowy, tense, stuck places within. Through simple, informed touch techniques, we'll explore how to unwind long-held tension and create more ease, freedom, and spaciousness in your movement. I'll demonstrate techniques for deepening felt-sense awareness, and offer approachable self-treatment strategies to help alleviate common aches, strains, and patterns of discomfort.
To make the most of our time together, please gather any self-care tools you have at home—such as a foam roller, therapy balls, yoga blocks, and yoga mat—along with a lotion or lubricant, a chair, 2-3 hardbound books, a hand towel, a larger towel, and a couple lengths of string, twine, a scarf, or shoelaces for bundling the towels.
Daniel Addy is a therapeutic massage therapist, mover, and art-maker based in Portland, Oregon, who has spent a lifetime exploring the creative, athletic, and healing possibilities of the human body. Drawing from his background as a competitive swimmer and more than 30 years as a yoga practitioner and dancer, Daniel weaves movement wisdom into every aspect of his bodywork.
He founded his practice, Two Fires Therapeutic Massage, after completing his studies at East West College of the Healing Arts in 2010. Guided by deep reverence for the body's innate complexity and intelligence, and a curiosity that continues to expand, Daniel has cultivated a broad, adaptive approach to manual medicine, drawing inspiration from a wide range of traditions including Structural Integration, Thai Massage, Reflexology, Craniosacral therapy, Neural Manipulation, Muscle Energy Techniques, and, most recently, Zero Balancing.
Over his first 15 years in practice, Daniel has developed treatment protocols that aim to support each person's capacity for balance, release, and healing. He holds profound gratitude for the clients, colleagues, and friends who have put their trust in him along the way, shaping his insight and strengthening his ability to serve his community through mindful, attuned touch.
